Jay Carroll Cox

Tybee Island - Jay Carroll Cox, 70, died June 24, 2006, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Jay was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University of Georgia with undergraduate and law degrees. He worked for the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. and practiced law in Swainsboro, Georgia. Jay served in the Georgia State Senate from 1966 to 1973 and was a State Court Judge in Swainsboro from 1974 to 1982. He had a passion for art and enjoyed a career as an artist after retirement. His paintings reflected his love for the birds and land of the marsh and sea where he lived. He was a member of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee Island.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Hill Cox and Mary Rountree Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Harrison Cox, of Tybee Island, three step-sons and their wives, Brig and Kathy Tison, Andy and Jina Tison, and Ben and Lauren Tison, and seven grandchildren, Brig, Sloan, Sidney, Kole, Carver, Knox, and Boone Tison. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin Rountree Cox and Diane Cox, his niece, Kate, and his step-mother, Dorothy Cox.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 25, 2006, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee Island.

Burial will be on Wednesday at Coleman Cemetery in Twin City, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s School, P.O. Box 740, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
